In 2007, I stumbled upon Wendy's photography and was captivated by her beautiful polaroids with faded style. Her music, too, was atemporal and impossible not to fall in love with. This year, Wendy is releasing a new album called "Alone with Unknown" which has been produced by Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes. It's worth noting that Nick Rhodes and Bevans have collaborated before, during pandemic times, on an album called Astronomia. Their creative partnership created the blueprint for Wendy’s new album and an impeccable resource entertaining the duo’s depth of knowledge in music, style, and culture.
On Saturday May 11th, Bevan will be gracing the stage at a festival in LA called Cruel World. This is a unique opportunity for her fans to be the first to hear some of her new songs from her latest album. The festival has an incredible lineup of artists, including Blondie, Jesus and Mary Chain, Interpol, and Duran Duran, among others. Platformed with such a stellar lineup of talent, Wendy will be performing her unheard, new material from her forthcoming album, at the festival adding to the excitement of the event.
After the festival, Wendy is embarking on a groundbreaking collaboration with W1 Curates in London, a space that seamlessly blends digital art, music, and performance. This unique venture will mark her first step into the digital art world and is scheduled to take place later this year. The focus will be on violin soundscapes and creating an immersive interactive, otherworld y and futuristic environment inspired by Chromesthesia. Bevans finds inspiration in light and wishes to dissolve the barriers between physical and digital. The collaboration will include a performance and exhibit, promising a one-of-a-kind experience for the audience.
Wendy has been singing since she was a child. She recalls singing all day, every day, and being unstoppable. Wendy describes singing as a way to communicate with the world. It has allowed her to dream of another place - outer space - where she can talk to the unknown through this portal.
As the sole author of all her song lyrics, she makes it a habit to jot down notes every day, accumulating pages of words, lyrics, text, and thoughts that she might use in the future. She says that sometimes, a song idea begins with a single line she jotted down in the shower, on a napkin, or a notepad by her bedside. Other times, inspiration strikes during a solo night drive along in the Hollywood Hills
She often has fleeting thoughts that revolve around moments and reflections. Though her lyrics are not verbose, they hold significant meaning. She believes that less is more, and wants her audience to interpret her lyrics in their own way. She never intends to dictate how they should feel.
Bevan was born in the UK and moved to LA in 2014. At first, she thought she would never fall in love with the city. However, the beauty of the golden sunlight at 4:30 pm made her stay forever. She found it so wild, weird, beautiful, dark, and full of smoke and mirrors. With a unique style, the multi-artist finds her pieces timeless and often inspired by characters in movies, film noir and avant garde European films. She loves the 1940’s & 1970s and considers these decades the periods that she always looks back on. Her style boasts bright, bold colours and elegant and big shapes, which embrace the strength of femininity. She also dresses in a way that embraces this strength.
When it comes to fitting in today's world, tomorrow's world, or even the next Wendy's, she is not concerned about conforming. Instead, she focuses on creating her own path with her unique vision and sound. She hopes to carve out a space where everyone can truly dream. Her music is not an attempt to conform, but rather an effort to create a familiar and intriguing sound universe that welcomes everyone into a unique mystery."
