Yvu (aka Yan Higa) is a miscellaneous queer sound artist from São Paulo, Brazil. Their compositions and soundscapes, as their curation, converge hybrid genres, peculiar sound design, rhythmic complexity, and sinuous narratives influenced by electronic and acoustic music from Brazil and worldwide. They're the founder and art director of the collective & record label Acta.
"Coágulo" serves as Yvu's debut album. The tracks have been meticulously crafted since 2019 and possess a disconcerting, synaesthetic, and at times abstract sonority, brought to life by speculative sound design. The album envisions a soundscape of a post-anthropocene world, where semi-synthetic life forms generate melodies. Nature has merged with the by-products of human extractivism, resulting in a symphony of heavy machinery, destruction, and plastic entities intertwined with distant echoes emanating from the forests, rivers, deserts, and seas.
Yan embodies Nature's insurrection and decay in the music video for the track Mud. Emerging from an abandoned quarry and then finding themselves covered in mud among humans inside a car, the disturbing figure engages each character in a lustful trance, their bodies entangling and finally becoming one.
